From self-defence to self-confidence: the hidden power of our weekly class š„
At D-EDGE, we believe that professional growth goes hand in hand with personal empowerment. Thatās why, every week, our meeting rooms transform into a space for focus and strength as our team members of Paris office take part in our Self-Defence classes.
While it might seem worlds away from spreadsheets and strategy meetings, this weekly session has become a key part of our culture. From complete beginners to fitness enthusiasts, colleagues from all departments join in to learn more than just physical techniques. Itās about building a mindset that helps us move through the world (and the office) with more confidence.
The power of empowerment
This weekly hour of training offers our teams tangible benefits that extend far beyond the mats:
- š”ļø Boosting confidence and assertiveness: Self-defence isnāt just about protection, itās about posture and presence. Learning to set boundaries and stand your ground translates directly into more confident communication in the workplace.
- š§ Stress management under pressure: The practice teaches participants to stay calm and keep a clear head in high-pressure situations, an invaluable skill for navigating a fast-paced work environment.
- š¤ Strengthening team bonds: Training together creates a unique level of trust and camaraderie. Itās a powerful way to connect with colleagues across different teams in an atmosphere of mutual respect.
- ā”ļø Mental sharpness and focus: Much like our yoga sessions, self-defence requires total concentration, providing a mental reset that leaves teams feeling revitalised and sharp.
- šŖ A commitment to safety and well-being: By offering these classes, we send a clear message: the safety, empowerment and holistic well-being of our people are our top priorities.
Laurence, a D-EDGER who participates, shares her experience
Thanks to D-EDGE, Iāve had the opportunity to attend several self-defense classes. To be honest, itās quite challenging at first: it isn't necessarily intuitive. However, with consistency and rigor, you really start to internalize the right reflexes to adopt in the event of a sudden confrontation.
One of the most important takeaways for me is that violence should always be the last resort. Communication and de-escalation are always better if you can avoid causing harm. That being said, if a situation persists and becomes unavoidable, these classes give you the tools to defend yourself and neutralize an opponent.
Ultimately, the goal isn't to be a hero; it's about staying safe and knowing how to react effectively. And on top of that, our coach Jean is very friendly!
